SEASONS OF THE ANGLER
March and April bring beautiful chrome steelhead into local rivers. May ushers in little black caddis and Hendricksons for the “Gentlemen’s Hatch”. Yet it’s the sulfurs, brown drakes and hex that bring most anglers to our local rivers. Mayfly, caddis and stonefly hatches in May and June give way to good terrestrial fishing in July and August. You can even wade the Lake Michigan "flats" for the now famous "golden bones" (carp) in May and June. Late summer tricos and early fall baetis fishing will challenge an angler’s light tippet and eyesight. September’s fall colors announce the arrival of thousands of Chinook and coho salmon into the Crystal, Manistee, Platte and Betsie Rivers. Before you head out, check the hatch board at Streamside Orvis, or visit on-line to find the latest infomation.

Streamside Orvis is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Traverse City, Michigan. Nestled streamside to the Boardman River, Streamside Orvis is Northern Michigan’s best fly fishing resource. It's not unlikely to see resident brown trout, steelhead, coho and chinook salmon all in the river only 50 feet from the store. From dog nests to Deceivers, Streamside Orvis has tackle, flies, and a great selection of Orvis gifts, clothing as well as fine art, books, Exofficio travel clothing, Patagonia, Mountain Khaki, Barbour rainwear and garments, and fine upland hunting gear.

Streamside Orvis is also home to the famous Orvis Michigan Fly Fishing School. Orvis Michigan hosts of one and two-day fly fishing schools at the exclusive Homestead Resort only minutes away in Glen Arbor Michigan where deluxe conference facilities, casting ponds, trout ponds and private river frontage make the Orvis Michigan Fly Fishing Schools unique to the Midwest.

If fly angling Michigan’s finest trout waters is your goal, let Orvis Streamside book your day of fly angling with one of it’s own Orvis Streamside guides. Or, we can put you in touch with any of several Orvis Endorsed Guides, or Orvis Guide Services.
